“SCHOOL OF GREATNESS”

Lets talk Adversity. “Storms make trees take deeper roots.” Dolly Parton
My favorite chapter in The School of Greatness is Turning Adversity into Advantage and so perfect for what we are all going through in 2020.

I want to share the exercise he has listed on page 56 of the book. “Adversity happens to everyone, and though pain is inevitable, despair is optional. Discover precisely what the adversity is and why it is happening. This is your opportunity to take responsibility for every type of adversity that comes your way. Focus on the why – the root of it.” School of Greatness

Step 1: Be Aware of the Adversity
There are 2 types of adversity:
The minor daily adversities that come from time to time.
The major singular adversities that are more rare like a death.
What adversities do you face? Write it down then identify if they are minor or major. How have you been dealing with them? You can’t deny adversity, it will only persist.

Step 2: Write it down and Share it
How does it make you feel? Get it out, embrace it and the feelings associated with it. Keep it all in my place to refer back so you can grow through and get the toxic out.

Step 3: Acknowledge Yourself
Once you get the negative out, acknowledge yourself for good things you have done, positive affirmations. Things you are good at.

Step 4: Express your gratitude
Tell someone 3 things you are grateful for. It’s hard to be upset when you focus on gratitude and what you are grateful for.

Step 5: Reconnect to your vision and take action
Take your action back to what you want to receive and why you want to achieve it. Then figure your next step to making it happen.

“Whenever you are in a breakdown or battling adversity in any situation in your life, this 5 step process will help you fight off the insidious nature of self defeating negative thoughts and chart a positive path toward achieving your vision and becoming great.” Lewis Howes
“Remember no one has ever achieved anything great without going through extreme adversity.” Lewis Howes
